About the role

Bytes & Pixels builds software for clients and runs its own digital products, including mobile AI apps. The work spans interesting client projects, our own product bets, and our skincare brand Labeless. Small Munich team, short path from idea to shipped.

Most junior engineer roles still describe a job that is quietly disappearing: type out every line by hand and wait for someone senior to review it. We are hiring for the job that is replacing it. You will write software the way we work now, with AI agents doing much of the typing while you direct, review, and own the result. That means less rote syntax recall and more judgment: knowing what to ask for, reading what the agent produced, catching where it went wrong, and shipping something you can stand behind. The fundamentals matter more than ever here, because you cannot review code you do not understand. This is a real engineering role, not a prompt-typing role.

Tasks

- Build and ship features on client projects and our own products, including mobile AI apps, using TypeScript, React, and Node.js

- Work agent-first: use AI coding tools to move fast, then review and harden what they produce

- Read and debug code you did not write, including code an agent generated

- Turn loose requirements into working software with tight feedback loops

- Own small pieces end to end, from first draft to live, with senior support when you need it

Requirements

- A degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience.

- Solid fundamentals in TypeScript, React, and Node.js. You have built things with them, at work, in study, or on your own projects.

- Real hands-on experience with AI development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar). This is a must-have, not a bonus. We want to see that you already build with these and have opinions about where they help and where they don't.

- The instinct to verify rather than trust. You check what the agent gives you instead of pasting it blind.

- Clear communication. You can explain what you built and why.

- Fluent English. German is a bonus.

Nice to have:

- Side projects, open-source contributions, or anything you shipped that we can look at

- Exposure to databases, APIs, or cloud deployment

Benefits

- A front-row seat to how software gets built now, with the tools and freedom to work that way from day one

- Real ownership early. Your work ships and users see it.

- Direct mentorship from senior engineers, not a ticket queue

- A small Munich team where what you do visibly moves the company

Send us your CV and, more importantly, something you have built: a repo, a live project, or a short note on something you shipped with AI tools and what you learned. We want to see what you can do, not just read about it.
