About the role

ABOUT THE JOB

Valkyrie Aero is seeking a software engineer to develop software for an airborne mission system. Software Engineers in this role develop the software that runs on embedded Linux hardware and integrates sensors, payloads, and the operator interface. This includes device interfaces, control software, real-time data handling, and supporting backend services. This is a fully remote position.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Develop and maintain software on embedded Linux systems, including operating system configuration, device drivers, deployment, and updates

Implement interfaces to sensors, payloads, and aircraft systems over serial, Ethernet, and video links

Implement control software for sensors and payloads

Develop real-time data handling, including time synchronization, logging, and transport of data between devices and the operator interface

Develop backend services and APIs as required

Support integration and test, including diagnosing and resolving issues on target hardware

Work with hardware engineers on compute, power, and interface selection

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Professional experience developing embedded or systems software on Linux

Experience with both embedded software and backend services

- Proficiency in C++ and Python

Experience interfacing software with hardware, including reading schematics, datasheets, and interface control documents

Experience with real-time data handling and debugging of combined hardware/software systems

Experience delivering software to a fielded system

- Must be a U.S. citizen

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with NVIDIA Jetson or similar embedded compute platforms

Experience with motion control, servo loops, or state estimation

Experience with serial and video interfaces and aircraft data buses

- Experience with gRPC or WebSockets

Experience with embedded Linux build systems (Yocto, Buildroot) and over-the-air update systems

Experience in defense, aerospace, robotics, or other safety-critical software development

- Personal robotics or hardware projects
