About the role

A Contently Managing Editor is responsible for supervising and coordinating a team of freelance journalists to manage the timely delivery of quality content for client projects. The Managing Editor provides updates to the Account Manager as a freelance editor assigned to projects w/ monthly, weekly, or daily assignments. The Managing Editor is responsible for maintaining strict quality and style standards; managing assignments and the editorial calendar; and coordinating communication between the Clients (Publishers) and writers.
Contently maintains strict quality standards and relies on the Managing Editor to control the quality of content, request revisions from freelance journalists and make staff changes when required. As such, the Managing Editors success is judged primarily on the quality of the content.
The position is freelance, performed remotely, typically range from 5 hours to 20 hours per week. Pay is competitive.

Contently Managing Editor tasks include

Bring big ideas to the table

Help the clients and journalists generate new pitches

Assign articles

Prepare, rewrite and edit copy to improve readability

Detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax

Verify facts, dates, and statistics, using standard reference sources

Ensure compliance to the publication's style, editorial policy, and publishing requirements

File brief stories and blog posts when necessary

Contently Managing Editors should have experience hiring and managing freelance journalists; assigning news and feature articles for a monthly, weekly, or daily publication; fact checking and editing news copy; editing for publication style.
The position is freelance, performed remotely, and can range from 4 hours to 20 hours per week. Pay is competitive.
