All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions.JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.
Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization’s gender-equity agenda.Membership is a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.
Overview
This is a pro-bono volunteer position.
JerseySTEM is looking for talented professionals across our departments to commit time and energy as long-term engagement for our mission to provide STEM education to underrepresented middle school girls.
The Deputy Department Head will assist the Department Head in leading initiatives with NJ Universities and Colleges to recruit volunteer instructors.
Responsibilities
Support and collaborate with teams in Business Development ( OLE.DEV), Student Groups (COLE.SGL), and Individual Students engagement (COLE.PIO).ment goals.
Develop or approve projects to be conducted to achieve the recruit
Provide Junior Associates with direction, guidance and subject matter expertise.
Participate in hiring, budgeting, and marketing activities to ensure smooth college engagement operations.
Help streamline college engagement processes and improve the effectiveness of program instructors recruitment.
Act as a point of contact in the absence of the Department Head, ensuring continuity in departmental operations.
Foster positive relationships with college partners and stakeholders to strengthen JerseySTEM's presence in educational institutions.
Qualifications
Genuine concern about/interest in solving the STEM education gender gap
Strong leadership/team building skills
Resourceful, can-do attitude
Experience with Universities and College campuses
Outreach experience preferred
Experience leading a function (i.e. team, department manager, etc) and managing others
Comfort working in a ‘virtual organization’ with digital tools (G-Suite, Slack, Jira, salesforce)
Would be a plus if candidate has flexible schedule to allow for day time calls with the school admins during the work week
