Job OverviewSolactive's Aggregate team owns the intraday calculation of our indices: consuming live price streams, applying calculation logic across a wide range of indices, and producing a continuous output stream of index ticks throughout the trading day. The core platform is built in Java and engineered around throughput, latency, and correctness under concurrency, while custom business integrations are built in Python. As a Working Student you join a small team and contribute real, production-bound code to both, working alongside senior engineers who review your work and coach you.
Your TasksImplement well-scoped features and fixes in the Java calculation platform, such as improvements to calculation components, price stream consumption, or index tick production
Write unit, integration, and performance tests, including tests for concurrent code paths where ordering and timing matter
Help investigate correctness or performance issues: reproduce them, narrow them down, and propose fixes with senior guidance
Build and maintain Python integrations for business teams: connectors to the calculation platform, output adapters, validation checks, and small operational tools
Contribute to monitoring and developer tooling that makes calculation behaviour observable and easier to reason about
Take part in design and code reviews, ask questions, and document what you learn so the next person can pick it up faster
Your ProfileEnrolled student in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field
Strong Java fundamentals: object-oriented design, collections, generics, and comfort reading and writing idiomatic modern Java
Solid grounding in core computer science: data structures, algorithms, and complexity, and in particular a working understanding of multithreading and concurrency (threads, synchronisation, memory visibility, races and deadlocks)
Openness to Python: no prior experience needed, but willingness to pick it up for integration and tooling work alongside Java
Familiarity with Git, the command line, and a testing mindset; interest in measuring performance rather than guessing at it
Ability to work independently on a scoped task, ask for help early when stuck, and communicate clearly in writing
Available for 15–20 hours per week during the semester, more during semester breaks
Interest in financial markets, market data, or index calculation is welcome but not required
